Seiko Matsuda, born Kamachi Noriko on March 10, 1962 in Kurume, Fukuoka, is one of the greatet singers in the history of Japanese pop music.

Since her debut with the song "Hadashi no Kisetsu" in 1980, she became the top teen idol throught the decade. She has the record of 24 consecutive #1 single hits in Japan and is also on the top 3 list of most #1 albums, most top 10 singles, and most top 10 albums.

Going into the 1990s, she became more of an actual "musician" by writing and producing her own songs and albums, and she released six self-produced albums, all with her original songs only.

She tries to keep the "idol" status after two divorces, and with all other scandals and controversial stories, many compare her to Madonna not only for the status as a pop singer but also for the fact that they both have abilities to keep their names in the news. Regardless, she remains to be one of the most influential figures in the J-Pop scene.
